The words I hear the most from new VAs are “How do I get clients”. I often get the feeling new VA’s expect clients to just appear out of thin air or expect other VA’s to let them assist with their clients. To get clients you have to do the work to get them to notice you, there is no other way. You can subcontract to another VA/Transcriptionist but you still don’t have the clients, you only have the VA/Transcriptionist as your client and probably are only getting paid 30-45% of the actual rate that is being charged. VA’s are not going to share their client’s info with you.
Let’s get to ‘how you get clients’. You simply do marketing, advertising, and networking. That’s the way to get clients. The more you do the more chances you have of clients contacting you.
There are many ways to market, the same with advertising. If something does not work, then you change your ways and try another way. Your aim must be to get your information out there far and wide. Create Adverts and post them anywhere on the Internet that allows you to advertise on. Change your Adverts often, e.g. TV adverts change continuously, your Adverts should do the same.
Create your website to talk to your clients, as a client goes into your website, they need to see exactly what you can do and how you can help them within a few minutes of entering your site. Clients don’t have time to hang about, they want your help and they want it now and if your website is not giving the message, they want they will quickly move on to the next site. My website is my Internet advert, so I make sure I use my website URL in all my advertising and marketing. I market and advertise worldwide, as we can work for any client no matter where they are in the world.
I don’t like attending networking events, but it’s a great way to get your message out there and meet people and discuss your business, maybe ask to do a presentation at the next networking event you attend for the same group. Join your local business groups, community groups and get involved with them and talk about your business, word of mouth spreads your business info very fast.
Another way to market and get more clients is to Blog. Blogging is a great way to attract clients and to build up a database of your visitors. I love content/article marketing. Show clients that you are an expert in your industry by writing articles about what you do.
With marketing you can’t just do 5 minutes, a week, a month, etc, marketing must be done for the life of your business. There are many marketing techniques to try and many ideas on the Internet that you can find with a bit of research.
I find more and more clients in South Africa now understand what VA’s/Transcriptionist are and what we do, and they now know that we can assist them, quicker than any employee. The news about the Virtual Assistant industry and the Transcriptionist industry has spread quickly in SA, so, getting clients now is a lot easier than it used to be. I still think there is plenty of work out there for all of us. There is competition out there amount the VA but the idea as a VA or Transcriptionist it is to make yourself stand out from the crowd and be different.
Over the next few week’s I will share further posts on how I do Marketing, Advertising and Networking. Come back soon to learn more. If you like this article please share forward. Thank you.
